Repo Men or the Buyers in Quebec is an American film directed by Canadian Miguel Sapochnik, released on March 19, 2010 in North America and Canada, and July 14, 2010 in Europe.

In the future, organ donation is no longer a problem due to the development of biotechnology. Still, the cost of a transplant remains high. Sangh is a society that manages organ donation. Those who don’t pay their huge debts are faced with repo men (buyers), whose mission is to legally take the transplanted organs of bad payers.

In 2025, a corporation called the Union developed the manufacture of prostheses, which replaced organ transplants. So a potential customer may come to the union to request an organ, which he must purchase on credit. If he is unable to maintain the payment after three months, the repo-man is the person who is sent to the customer to recover the asset which he can no longer repay. The recovery process is brutal and often results in the death of the client.

Remy is one of the best repo-men in the union. He works to collect overdue accounts with his childhood friend, Jake. Remy is very popular within The Union, calling it promising, although the business creates problems for his wife, who considers it suspicious. After they leave, when Jake recovers in front of their house, Remy decides to look for a job in sales, upsetting Jake.

For his final cover, Remy is sent to the home of a music producer whose work he admires. After giving the man enough time to finish a song, Remy prepares to take his heart back. When he tries to use a cardiac defibrillator to stop the heart, the defibrillator malfunctions which sends a huge electric shock through his body and he falls into a coma. When Remy awakens from his coma, he is informed by Jake and Frank, their partners, that the shock has severely damaged his heart. It can be fitted with an artificial heart, or die. After trying to leave the hospital, Remi reluctantly agrees to the procedure.

Remi returns to his job, but is no longer able to practice it: he feels right, with his new heart, as one of the people from whom he must recover a unit. He tries to convert the sale, but quickly finds himself with late payments. Jake takes Remy on a mission to the outskirts of the city where people with outstanding accounts with the Union run away to avoid organ recovery. Remy is unable to recover again, after which she is abandoned by Jake until she can do her job. Remi loses consciousness as a result of an attack on two men whose organs she tried to retrieve.

Remy, upon awakening, meets Beth again, who she had previously met at a bar where she sang. He learns that he has multiple organs, that he has late payments and that he is currently an addict. Remi takes her to a motel room, where he stays with her to wean her. After a failed attempt to clear his account, Remy returns to the union’s headquarters and tries to destroy evidence of his debt to the company, but Jake takes him by surprise. Beth and Remy go to live on the periphery.

They then live a complete happiness. Remy uses an old typewriter, which Beth gives him, to write the story of his life. When he finishes a repo-man comes to fix his heart. After a brief fight, Remy uses a typewriter to rescue Beth. Remy then uses the man’s vehicle to break into his former workplace. He tries to force Frank to clear his account, but he discovers that it is impossible to clear his accounts because of his previous visit.

Remy and Beth try to escape by flight, but they are put under protection when it is discovered that Beth’s knee prosthesis has been damaged as a result of her previous fight with Repo-Man. He is forced into airport security and fighting against two other repo-men. Remy kills or neutralizes them all, and while on the run, finds himself face to face with Jake, who was assigned to recover Remy’s debts. The couple manage to escape, and go to see a doctor on the black market to have Beth’s knee replaced. After the procedure, the two are arrested by Jake, who follows them. A fierce fight ensues, during which Jake reveals that he was the one who damaged the unit’s defibrillator so that Remy can continue his Repo-Man work in order to earn a promotion. This follows a fight between the two but Jake wins and hits Remy with a chain and drops it into an apple.

Remy awakens, and is taken safely to a house with Beth due to a raid led by Union repo-men. The two survive the night, but Remy regrets it after discovering the bodies of the Union’s victims. He decides to destroy all accounts of the company to stop the recovery. After telling their story to their son during a brief meeting on a train, they head to the Sangh’s headquarters. Remy and Beth are followed into the building, and after an intense fight, arrive at the Pink Door, behind which is the system of registration of collected units. Through the use of Beth’s prosthetic eye, they are able to get inside before Jake and Frank arrive. Once inside, they discover that the server has no interface other than the scanner. Remy learns that the only way to get out of the system is to “scan”. Remy and Beth open each other to use their body scanners to cancel their accounts.

Jake and Frank are able to enter using a limb, while Remy desperately tries to revive Beth, who has stopped breathing during the procedure. Jake asks Remy if he is worth facing all the hardships and pain, Remy agrees. Frank wields a weapon to kill Remy, but Jake turns against his employer, stabbing him to death. Jake then assists Remy with Beth’s resuscitation, after which he places two explosives inside the organ storage unit.

Later, Remy is at a tropical beach, enjoying her freedom with Beth and Jake. His text written earlier in the film was published in a book, The Mambo Reposition. Remy turns to Jake, but notices the background flickering and incoherent voices. We learn that Remy actually suffered severe brain damage when Jake struck him with the series earlier in the film. The regretful Jake had paid Remy’s fees and placed her in a network of neurons, allowing him to live the rest of his life in a dream. Beth is still alive, but unconscious, and when asked what to do with her, Jake replies that he will take care of it. This leads to the feeling that this part of the film takes place in Remy’s imagination. Jake receives Remy’s manuscript, which he welcomes with a bitter laugh, as his former partner is trapped there, possibly to spend the rest of his life in his fantasy world.
